Vacation Art Camp -Rock, Paper, Scissors

Campers will work one day each with each guest artist/teacher to build creations with local rock, make Origami animals and boxes and cut a path into the world of paper and collages! Special camp guest, former State geologist Larry Becker will discuss Vermont rock formations.
Ages 7 - 12
Camp will be led by three Vermont Artists/Educators: Susan Aranoff (Rocks), Binta Colley (Scissors) and Jen Anthony (Paper).

Summer Art Camp Dates for Kids Ages 7-14!


T.W. Wood Summer Art Camp programs are designed for kids 7-14. Camps are held on the campus of the VT College of Fine Arts (VCFA) in Montpelier, VT and at Gallery's 46 Barre St location in Montpelier. Day Campers experience a range of fun and enriching art and movement activities along with time to make new friends.

Instructors are professional teachers and artists, all well known within the community. The final day of camp includes a closing performance and exhibit of the campers art work. Register early to reserve your space!
The Gallery Summer Art Camps begins with the popular and long running camp at the Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) Campus, followed by four weeks of Artrageous Camp held on site at the Gallery. Both camps are in Montpelier, VT.

 Join in on a week or two weeks of hands on art projects including painting, crafts, cardboard creations, movement and theater activities and lots of fun! Led by dedicated, art professional and fun staff, Martha Fitch, Sharon Newcomb, James Lockhart and Pete Talbot!

summer art camp experience. Some of the
camp teachers include:

Martha Fitch returns to art camp, bringing her experience as a licensed public school art teacher, a studio artist, and as an arts administrator honored
by the Vermont Arts Council. With a Master's in Art Education from Rhode Island School of Design. Martha is dedicated to providing young artists with a range of unusual materials with which to work. Her own field of expertise is printmaking and fabric dyeing and printing.

James Lockhart has been teaching art (7-12) at Hazen Union School for 18 years. He has taught at the T.W. Wood Summer Art Camp for many years and completed his MFA through Johnson State College and the Vermont Studio Center. James' own artwork has been shown nationally and is in many private collections. He lives in in Elmore, Vermont. Sharon Newcomb, one of our original art camp teachers, offers creative movement, dance, theater games, and cooperative activities. She has an M.Ed in Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance,
and many years of teaching experience. She teaches physical education at U-32 High School. Sharon and Martha collaborated for years to produce all-school plays which incorporated an original script, artwork, creative movement, dance, and music.

Peter Talbot holds a BA in Art Education from Johnson State College, has student taught at
Montpelier High School and Berlin Elementary School, and and is a professor at the Cardboard
Teck Instantute. Pete's expertise is in illustration, cartooning. cardboard construction, and general goofiness. Pete has been living in his veggiepowered, solar school bus for the last few years. When he's not in Austin, TX making puppets and sets out of cardboard for a local theater, he's the official tour bus driver for a cat circus.

Camp hours are drop off 8:30 am. Camp officially begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm.

• 7/24/17- 7/28/17 - Puppet Show Creation! Create your own puppets out of paper Mache and paint and dress them up. Produce fun puppet shows along with time for games and playing outside. There will be a puppet show on the last day of camp for family and friends to see! Lead by Ellis Jacobson
Ellis is known for his widely exhibited sculpted masks and his original comedy theater and has presented arts enrichment workshops throughout Vermont. He is the After School Arts Director at the T.W. Wood Gallery and has been an instructor and director for a variety of after school and summer camp programs.

• 7/31/17 - 8/4/17 - Performing Secrets! Learn the basics of acting and the fun of being a clown, secrets of magic tricks and play theater games! Time for outside fun too! Lead by artist and educator Ellis Jacobson.

• 8/7/17-8/11/17 - Design Pop-up Cards and Make Your Own Pop-up Book! Led by Ellen Bresler. Take a plain, flat piece of paper and bring it to life with simple cuts and folds. Starting with basics you can make it spin, pop, flip, swing and more. You will learn lots of techniques to create your own decorations, toys, theater sets and all occasion fun cards). Time for outside fun too! Paper engineering can bring new dimensions to school projects as well. You'll put some of your favorite techniques together to create your own pop-up book! The whole group will also collaborate to create a book to give to the Wood Art Gallery to become part of its permanent art collection!
Ellen has been a practitioner, teacher and student of paper engineering for more than 3 decades and never tires of the magic in learning a new way to make paper dance. She has taught workshops to students from age 3 to 90! Classes have been in libraries, town halls, church basements, a correctional facility, art galleries, private homes and in schools from pre-K to college.

8/14/17- 8/18/17 - Trash to Treasures Trash to Treasures: Up-Cycled Art. Led by Michelle Saffran. Scrounge around your closets, clean out those broken toys and pilfer through your recycling bin. Campers will take things apart and reassemble them into 2 and 3 dimensional art works. Using collage, assemblage and sculpture you will spend the week creating your own works of art as well as one large group sculpture, all made from materials rescued from being thrown away or recycled. Camp will include field trips to see local sculpture and art exhibits.
Michelle Saffran is a working artist and arts educator. She earned her MFA from Lesley College of Art and Design and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. In her art practice she pushes the tradition of photography by turning it into sculpture, handmade books and collages.

Vacation Art Camp - PIRATES!

Make your own Pirate Garb!

Come to a fun filled 3-day vacation art camp to learn about pirates - how did they live? Who were they really? Learn about notorious women and men pirates like Anne Bonnyand Blackbeard! What happened to them? Why are there modern day pirates? Come make a pirate outfit and treasure map, hear pirate stories, paint your own pirate ship, act in a pirate skit and have fun with other pirates. There will be a pirate performance on March 1st at 3 PM.

The T.W. Wood Art Camp
had two weeks of Art Camp that was generously hosted at the Vermont College of Fine Arts campus in Montpelier, VT. We also held a new Artrageous Camp at the Gallery 46 Barre street location in Montpelier. Campers had lots of fun and created some amazing art projects!
