Call to Artists for the First Annual Summer Juried Show

 • Artwork: Submit up to 3 titled images in any medium, (painting, drawing, photography, sculpture etc.) created in the last five years. Maximum size 40 inches or smaller due to space limitations.
• Fee: $30 for submitting three pieces of art. $10 for each additional


• Payment: Check or money order made out to T. W. Wood Gallery. Mail to 46 Barre St Montpelier, VT 05602. For credit card charges include your name as on the card, type of card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover) address including zip code where credit card bills are sent, expiration date (mmyy), three digit security code and e-mail address.

o People's Choice Award (to be voted on by exhibit attendees)
• Submission Deadline: May 21, 2017


• E-mail submissions, send jpg files to: twwoodartgallery@gmail.com Limit file sizes to 3 MB total. Include show title on subject line. Note in the email a list of all images submitted, medium, size and retail price. (note the Gallery charges a 40 % commission fee)
• Include: a short bio (100 words) and artist statement plus your contact information name, address, e-mail and phone.
• Notification Date: June 16, 2017
• Installation: Saturday July 8thth 2017
• Exhibition Dates: Tuesday July 11 -Friday September 8th, 2017

Submission Guidelines:

• If chosen to exhibit, artists are responsible for delivery of all work to the Gallery and picking up work. Artwork can be hand delivered or shipped via UPS or Fed-ex. If shipping please include a pre-paid return shipping label.
• All artwork accepted must be available for sale. The Wood Gallery will receive a 40% commission on all sales.
• All reasonable care and precaution will be taken in the handling, storing and installation of works submitted for this exhibit. The Gallery cannot be held liable for any damage to artwork.
Participation in the entry process constitutes an understanding and acceptance of the conditions.


August Burns - is a painter specializing in figurative art and portraiture. The focus of her work and of her life is people, and her art is to answer the questions "What makes each of us unique?", "What is it about a face that tells a person's story?"
Ellis Jacobson - Ellis Jacobson is well known for his widely exhibited sculpted masks and his original comedy theater and has presented arts enrichment workshops throughout Vermont. He is the After School Arts Director at the T.W. Wood Gallery.
David Schultz - Is the Vermont State Curator. His office oversees the ongoing care, conservation and interpretation of the historic Vermont State House and its collections of fine art, decorative art and historic furnishings. He oversees management of the State House as a museum, along with rotating art galleries at the Vermont Supreme Court and the Governor's Office in the Pavilion.

Juried Show Theme: Following the Rules/Breaking the Rules


The Following the Rules, Breaking the Rules exhibit was juried by Glen Austin Hutchins, Kathleen Kolb and Tom Slayton. Austin Hutchins makes paintings, drawings and sculpture with various materials and is the founder of the Front, a cooperative gallery and workspace in Montpelier, VT. Kolb's work has been represented in a number of Gallery's including David Findlay and Sherry French in New York City. Her current project is a collaborative exhibition: "Shedding Light on the Working Forest" with poet Verandah Porche. Slayton is a Vermont journalist and was editor-in-chief of Vermont Life magazine for 21 years. He is the author of several books including Sabra Field, the Art of Place and is a regular commentator on Vermont Public Radio. Includes 25 works of 20 artists in pastel, acrylics, oils, photography and three dimensional pieces. Artists to be exhibited include Nitya Brighenti, Hasso Ewing, Cindy Griffith, Lysa Intrator, Joyce Kahn, Hannah Morris, Maggie Neale, Dan Neary, Jack Sabon, Sarah Spletzer and Ann Young.
