October 30, 2008

Dear Friend,

This is the time of the year when the leaves are gone, the days are getting short and we take a few minutes of your time to remind you of all we do.

Of course you know that we have one of the finest permanent collections of 19th and 20th century art in New England. We are also the repository for Vermont’s portion of the Works Progress Administration art collection and present ten or more exhibitions of contemporary art every year. We have recently revived our lecture series and in addition we’ve scheduled some exciting musical and dramatic events for the upcoming months.

The Wood Gallery provides space for the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA-Visual twice a year and our Summer Art Camp has provided an extraordinary art experience for children in our community for over twenty years. We work closely with the local schools to provide positive and enriching gallery experience for area students and a program is in the works to take fine art into the schools. This year we also provided a venue and lectures for the UVM Osher Lifelong Learning Institute’s program and the Vermont Humanities Council.

Your gift, no matter the size, will support the artistic, cultural and educational heritage of Vermont. Won’t you take a moment to let us know that the T. W. Wood Gallery & Arts Center is important to you?

Best wishes,

Joyce Mandeville Executive Director

There is a treasure in Montpelier and it’s called the T. W. Wood Gallery.  A wonderful collection of its own, new exhibits every year, educational programs galore and a Summer Art Camp.  Add all this together and you see why I call the T. W. Wood Gallery a treasure.

The Wood Art Gallery does at least three vitally important things for Central Vermont: it gives us a window on the world of contemporary art, it keeps us aware of what local artists are working on and it provides us with a vital link to our own artistic past. And amazingly, it performs all of these important community functions with grace and intelligence. It is an outstanding small museum.

Throughout the years, the varied exhibits-some unforgettable-have inspired me as an art lover and as an artist.
